Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using The Dollar Bet (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. We may update these Terms periodically. Your continued use of the Service after changes means that you accept the updated Terms.

2. Description of Service

The Dollar Bet is a social platform where registered users can create private or public “rooms,” propose friendly wagers and track informal debts. The Dollar Bet is not a licensed bookmaker or gambling operator. The Service does not take deposits, hold stake money or disburse winnings. All wagers are agreements between participants. It is your responsibility to settle any debts outside of the platform; The Dollar Bet merely records them for convenience. Participants should only create wagers that are lawful and permissible in their jurisdiction.

3. Eligibility and Age Restrictions

Use of The Dollar Bet is limited to individuals who have reached the legal age to participate in social wagering activities in their jurisdiction. In the United States, most states require participants to be 18 years or older, while some forms of commercial gambling require 21 years of age. Responsible gaming frameworks emphasize restrictions on advertising to minors and preventing underage users from accessing wagering content. By using The Dollar Bet you represent that (i) you meet the minimum legal age requirement, (ii) your participation does not violate any law or regulation applicable to you, and (iii) you will not allow anyone under the legal age to access your account.

4. Account Registration and Security

To use the Service you must create an account, select a username, supply a valid email address and accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. You may customize your avatar using one of our default images. You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for any activities that occur under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access. We reserve the right to suspend or delete accounts that violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines.

5. Use of the Service

You agree to use The Dollar Bet solely for lawful, non‑commercial and personal entertainment purposes. You will not:

  • create wagers on events that are illegal, involve regulated gambling or encourage harm;

  • impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation;

  • post content that is hateful, harassing, obscene, defamatory, fraudulent or otherwise unlawful;

  • use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to access the Service;

  • attempt to interfere with the proper functioning of The Dollar Bet or circumvent security features;

  • solicit minors or promote wagering to under‑age audiences. Industry codes for sports wagering advertisements place commitments on operators to limit underage exposure; we expect users to uphold similar standards in rooms and communications.

6. Creating Rooms and Bets

Rooms. A room is a private or public group where members can share bets. When you create a room you must give it a title and may optionally supply a description. Rooms can be public (listed on the public rooms page) or private (accessible only via a unique code). Share private room codes carefully; anyone with the code can join.

Bet types. When starting a wager within a room you must choose a bet type:

  • Head‑to‑head (h2h) – A one‑on‑one bet between the creator and a single opponent. The creator names the event, sets a stake amount and may identify an opponent. The bet becomes open until an opponent takes it. Once taken, the bet’s status changes to taken. After the underlying event concludes, one participant proposes the winner and both participants must confirm the result; this two‑step process ensures both sides agree. If participants disagree on the outcome or wish to declare a draw, they may raise a dispute or vote for a draw; see §10 below.

  • Group – A multi‑player wager where participants choose between two sides (e.g., “Team A” vs. “Team B”). The creator must provide labels for each side and set a join deadline. Participants join the room and select the side they support. After the event, participants vote on which side won. A majority vote (floor[n/2]+1) is required for settlement; once achieved, the bet is marked completed and debts are allocated to the winning side. At least two participants are required for settlement.

  • Pool – A multi‑player wager where participants choose from two to ten possible outcomes. The creator lists the options (e.g., which team will win a tournament). Each participant selects exactly one option before the join deadline. After the event, participants vote on the winning option. As with group bets, a majority threshold is required to complete the bet.

You must not create bets that rely on events without an objectively verifiable outcome (e.g., “I think it will rain next week”) or that could cause harm or offense. For group and pool bets, you are responsible for specifying a reasonable join deadline so that all participants have time to join before the event occurs.

7. Participation and Stakes

Each bet carries a stake amount specified by the creator. In head‑to‑head bets both participants stake the same amount. In group or pool bets each participant stakes the same amount and chooses a side or option. The Dollar Bet does not hold or transfer stake funds. You are responsible for agreeing how and when to exchange money or other consideration with your fellow participants. The Service computes and displays informal debts between losers and winners but does not act as an escrow or guarantee payment.

8. Settlement of Bets

Bet statuses progress through several states:

StatusDescription
openA newly created bet that is available for participants to join. Only the creator can cancel an open bet.
takenA head‑to‑head bet after an opponent accepts.
pendingAfter a head‑to‑head participant proposes a winner, the bet enters pending status awaiting confirmation by the other participant. If both participants confirm the same winner, the bet becomes completed.
pending drawIf one participant proposes a draw in a head‑to‑head bet, the status becomes pending draw until the other participant confirms or disputes the draw.
completedThe bet has been settled. In group and pool bets, a majority vote determines the outcome; winners and losers are identified and debts computed. In head‑to‑head bets, completion occurs when both participants confirm the same winner or vote for a draw.
disputedOne or more participants have disputed the proposed outcome. While disputed, the bet is frozen until all disputes are withdrawn or all participants vote for a draw.
cancelledAn open bet can be cancelled by its creator before anyone has joined. Once participants have joined, the bet cannot be cancelled.

After settlement, The Dollar Bet records the outcome and calculates informal debts. For head‑to‑head bets, the loser owes the stake to the winner. For group and pool bets, all participants on the losing side collectively owe those on the winning side. Debts are computed fairly: the total pot contributed by losers is divided equally among winners, with any fractional cents distributed deterministically to avoid rounding inflation. Participants must settle these debts outside of the platform.

9. Notifications and Reactions

When significant events occur—room creation, bet creation, bet taken, outcome proposed, bet completed or disputed—The Dollar Bet posts entries to the room’s feed and may send you email or in‑app notifications. Users can also react to bets with emoji (e.g., fire, laugh or skull) as a lightweight way to express approval or humour. Reactions have no effect on bet outcomes.

10. Disputes and Draws

If you believe a proposed result is incorrect or unfair, you may initiate a dispute. Only participants in a bet can dispute it. When a dispute is filed the bet status changes to disputed, halting settlement. You must select a reason (e.g., incorrect result, rule disagreement). Once in dispute:

  • Participants can withdraw their dispute at any time, returning the bet to its previous status if no other disputes remain.

  • Participants can vote for a draw. If all participants vote to declare the bet a draw, the bet is marked completed with no debts owed. Draw votes are only available once the bet is disputed.

Persistent, frivolous or abusive disputes may lead to account suspension. The Dollar Bet staff may intervene when necessary to maintain fairness and integrity, but we do not adjudicate event outcomes; participants must agree among themselves.

11. Debts and Payouts

The Dollar Bet’s debt ledger is for informational purposes only. We are not a payment service provider and do not act as an intermediary in the settlement of wagers. It is your responsibility to reconcile debts using whatever method you prefer (cash, digital transfer, barter, etc.). The Dollar Bet does not guarantee payment and is not liable for unpaid debts.

12. Intellectual Property

The Dollar Bet software, trademarks, logos and content are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, modify or distribute the Service or its content without our prior written permission. When you post content (e.g., bet descriptions, comments) you grant us a non‑exclusive, worldwide, royalty‑free licence to host and display that content in connection with the Service. You retain ownership of your content. We may remove or modify your content if it violates these Terms or applicable law.

13. Privacy

Your privacy is important. Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it and how we use it. By using The Dollar Bet you consent to the collection and use of your data as described therein.

14. Termination and Suspension

We may suspend or terminate your account and remove any content if we believe you have violated these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or applicable law, or if your conduct harms the Service or other users. You may stop using The Dollar Bet at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., debt obligations, intellectual property, dispute of liabilities) will remain in effect.

15. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Dollar Bet provides the Service “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that the Service will be error‑free, uninterrupted or secure. We do not guarantee that bets or outcomes will be fair or accurate, since outcomes depend on user votes and consensus. You use the Service at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any direct or indirect damages resulting from your use of the Service, including losses arising from unpaid debts or disagreements with other users.
